Project MIKHAIL places its war story on an Earth being steadily overrun by the BETA, an alien force humanity resists with Tactical Surface Fighters, or TSFs. In Story Mode, players take the role of Shirogane Takeru, make decisions that shape the ending, and build a personal mech. Defeated enemies drop parts that can be assembled into a stronger fighting machine, tying the game’s narrative choices to hands-on customization.
Survival Mode shifts to a nameless surface pilot and blends action with strategy. Its Potentialities pit players against the BETA while they take missions from five factions with different ideologies and agendas. The mode’s endings depend on faction power, mission success, and the invasion’s state; after an ending, skills, weapon proficiencies, and equipment carry over, while the next Potentiality can be set to a higher difficulty. Special Hive missions offer another test, with V-Cash awarded for first-time and fast clears.
That mix of branching story, mech construction, and repeatable faction-led campaigns gives Project MIKHAIL a more varied play format than a single linear action campaign. The shifting balance of the factions and the BETA invasion also makes Survival Mode’s outcomes part of its combat challenge, not just a route to another ending.
