Project F is a team-based tactical shooter organized around a five-versus-five contest for a defensive target called the monolith. One side chooses where to place it inside a building and must hold that position for a set duration; the opposing side needs to finish hacking it before time runs out. Either team can also win by eliminating the entire enemy team, giving each round both an objective-focused route and a direct combat alternative.
The map design makes adaptation central to the match. A fresh map is generated for each game, while its rounds share that layout, so players can develop a plan during a match without relying on one permanent map. Character abilities add further tactical choices: one example can break through walls to open a route, while another can jump through space to advance allies beyond the front line. These tools shape how teams approach defense and the push toward the monolith.
Project F also uses a round-based weapon economy: players earn points by defeating enemies or winning rounds, then spend them on weapons, armor, and gadgets. A game can run for up to thirteen rounds, combining changing match layouts with recurring tactical decisions.
