Primal Carnage: Extinction sets its conflict on a remote island chain where escaped dinosaurs threaten an elite mercenary team sent to stop them. Its central hook is the clash between human hunters and playable prehistoric predators, rather than a single-sided monster hunt. Players can choose among twelve dinosaur classes, from Spitters to Tyrants, or five human classes, each with distinct traits, attacks, or utilities.
The dinosaur roster gets species-specific attacks and Roar Abilities that offer a tactical edge, while mercenaries draw on weapons and gadgets to fight back. The game also branches beyond direct team-versus-team combat: players can cooperate against AI dinosaurs, pursue an endless AI onslaught, play as an invisible raptor stalking humans, steal eggs, or defend dinosaur nests. These contrasting objectives give the game a mix of competitive, cooperative, and survival-focused play.
Cosmetic unlocks add another layer, with skins and other items earned through Extinction Points or available through the Steam Marketplace. Together, the asymmetric classes, varied missions, and customization frame Primal Carnage: Extinction as a multiplayer dinosaur combat game with more to it than simply surviving an attack.
