Possessor(s) is a single-player action side scroller set in a quarantined city torn apart by an interdimensional catastrophe. Players follow Luca, the host, and Rhem, her reluctant counterpart, whose survival depends on learning to co-exist. The setting is an interconnected sprawl of a destroyed mega-city, with locations such as collapsed skyscrapers and an abandoned aquarium. Multiple paths lead through this open-ended world as the pair seeks to uncover the truth behind the catastrophe.
The design brings precision platforming and combat together. A range of movement abilities supports fast-paced traversal, while fights balance ground and air attacks, combos and juggles against deadly enemies and challenging bosses. Weapons and upgrades strengthen the arsenal, and the game describes access to previously inaccessible areas as one purpose of finding and unlocking them. Its visual contrast pairs 3D environments with hand-drawn, animated characters, framing sci-fi horror action within a narrative populated by dangerous characters and stories of loss.
Its distinctive focus is on navigating a fractured city, refining movement and combat, and following the characters’ search for answers, not coordinating with other players.
