Portal: Revolution is a fan-made mod for Portal 2, set between Portal and Portal 2 in Aperture’s dead and decaying facility. You play as a test subject awakened by Stirling, a personality sphere, and drawn into a mission to find a device that could restore Aperture to its former glory. Its story uses new characters while placing the adventure in the familiar Portal universe.
The campaign features more than 40 new puzzles built around new test elements and fresh uses for existing mechanics. Among its distinctive additions are a resurrected Pneumatic Diversity Vent and a new laser cube variant. More than 15 puzzles use only the blue Portal-Gun Gel, giving that element a focused role in the challenge design.
The puzzles begin at a difficulty intended to follow Portal 2, while introducing new mechanics and advanced portal techniques as players progress. The developers say every player should be able to solve them, and note that only a few chambers call for firing portals mid-air; advanced movement is not required. Portal: Revolution runs on a modified Portal 2: Community Edition engine, enabling mechanics and engine improvements beyond those possible in Portal 2.
