Planet R-12 casts the player as a commander fighting hostile machines after robots attack an Earth ship and its soldiers are sent to stop the threat. The action unfolds across a planet populated by enemies ranging from small robotic creatures to large mechanical monsters. Its premise sets up a squad-based shooter, but the player’s role can shift between directing the fighters and taking part in combat as one of them.
Squads draw from seven persistent soldiers, with a team of one to three fighters. Their different weapons and skills shape encounters: Nina can heal wounded teammates, while other listed abilities include freezing nearby robots, raising a protective shield and calling in support. The game also encourages active skill use alongside shooting, and defeated enemies leave bonuses that can restore health or skills, boost damage, or unlock and improve weapons. Robot damage is visibly represented as machines break apart and expose their mechanical interiors.
That mix of direct combat and tactical control gives Planet R-12 a distinct single-player format, rather than a design organized around coordinating with other players. Weapons, upgrades, soldier abilities and battle bonuses all contribute to how the player handles those encounters.
