Pine casts players as Hue, a young adult searching for a new home for his tribe in the world of Albamare. This open-world action-adventure simulation frames survival as a negotiation with intelligent creatures, rather than a journey through a backdrop that waits passively for the player. The species Hue encounters have their own struggle to survive, and their stories can intersect with the tribe’s search for a place to settle.
Exploration, bartering, conversation, crafting, and combat are all part of Hue’s approach to the six biomes. The central twist is that choices toward other species can have ecological consequences: players can befriend them, fight alongside them, or attack them, steal their food, and drive them from their habitat. Meanwhile, organisms act across the open world without Hue’s involvement, making the setting’s changing relationships a defining part of the design.
Pine is categorized as single-player, so its play format centers on one player navigating these encounters and shaping their relationship with the world.
