Phantom Abyss sends adventurers into procedurally generated temples to retrieve sacred relics from trap-filled chambers. Branching routes bring hidden hazards, chasms, and relentless guardians into the challenge. Each temple allows just one attempt: failure, or leaving with a lesser relic, means that temple cannot be revisited. Claim its legendary relic and the temple disappears, leaving it as a trophy of the successful run.
The game’s asynchronous multiplayer design makes other players’ attempts part of the experience without turning a run into a conventional live race. Phantoms of earlier adventurers show their successes and mistakes, and players can study up to 20 attempts at the same temple. Chests hold keys to deeper floors and more coveted relics; collected treasure can be offered at altars for blessings such as a double jump, glide jump, extended slide, or damage protection. Whips add another choice, each granting a minor blessing alongside a potentially troublesome curse.
Social features let players share Temple Codes so friends can try the same temple, or pass along an Adventure Code that creates a playlist of temples they have attempted. The format centers on individual, high-stakes runs shaped by traces of other players, rather than requiring every adventurer to enter a temple together.
