Set in 1887, Peaks of Yore is a first-person climbing adventure in the mountainous region called The Great Gales. Its central challenge is to summit boulders, peaks and mountains, with each ascent presenting hazards and routes to uncover. The game’s quiet, picturesque mountain setting contrasts with the danger of climbing: mistakes can turn into serious falls, and progress comes through repeated attempts.
Climbing is built around physics and careful judgment rather than simply moving upward. Different holds must be mastered through trial and error, while unlockable gear can assist on more treacherous peaks. Along the way, players encounter fellow mountaineers, use a cabin as a base of operations and collect trinkets. The visual style evokes the nineteenth century, with a separate Colorful Mode also available.
Beyond its main peak-bagging adventure, the game includes the unlockable You Fall You Die and Free Solo modes, plus a Peak Level Editor for creating, editing and playing custom levels, with Steam Workshop support.
