Pathogenic casts the player as a parasite waging a desperate fight against its host’s immune system. Its premise gives the twin-stick shooter an unusual setting: rather than defending a human character, you hunt enemy cells and take their organelles to reshape your own organism. Runs unfold in a procedurally generated microscopic world, with environments inspired by the lungs, heart and brain.
Organelles are both equipment and the basis for a build. Flagella aid movement, mitochondria provide power, secretors enable ranged attacks, and spikes support melee combat; combining their effects can produce different synergies. The opposition ranges from macrophages and T cells to rival parasites, with bosses described as lurking in the host’s organs. Between runs, collected plasmid fragments contribute to a permanent upgrade tree, and each parasite has its own tree. A soft-body physics simulation gives cells, enemies and projectiles an organic quality, while the design combines handcrafted elements with procedural generation.
The store lists Pathogenic as single-player as well as multi-player, with co-op and shared or split-screen options. The premise, modular combat and between-run progression together define a microscopic action game built around evolving a pathogen.
