Paint the Town Red is a first-person melee game built around chaotic fights across different locations and time periods. Its destructible voxel enemies respond dynamically to punches, kicks, blades and improvised objects, making the environment and whatever is close at hand part of each confrontation. Scenario encounters range from disco brawls and bar fights to western saloon clashes, with settings bringing their own enemies and weapons.
The game shifts from those self-contained scenarios to Beneath, a roguelike campaign in which players descend underground to battle monsters, uncover secrets and face bosses. Players can choose classes with distinct stats and abilities, then improve them with upgrades. Arena mode offers challenges and an Endless mode focused on surviving for as long as possible, while a sandbox level provides space to test weapons and mechanics.
Creation is another part of the design: an in-game Level Editor supports custom stages, and Steam Workshop offers user-created levels alongside options for custom music and character textures. That combination of authored scenarios, a campaign, survival challenges and community-made stages makes Paint the Town Red more than a sequence of fixed brawls. Its play format spans individual combat, repeatable modes and cooperative sessions, with distinct ways to approach the game.
