Painkiller Hell & Damnation casts Daniel Garner as a fighter trapped in Purgatory, where demonic forces threaten imprisoned souls. He must battle through the realm while the story leaves open whether he can escape and reunite with his wife, Catherine. The game is presented as a modern remake of Painkiller and Battle Out Of Hell, built around fast-paced, all-action shooting.
Its combat pitch is deliberately uncompromising: Garner faces more than thirty kinds of demonic enemy with a distinctive arsenal, while the game rejects familiar shooter conveniences such as automatic healing and kill-streak rewards. The campaign spans four chapters and includes fifteen levels, among them four boss encounters, as well as a special Halloween level. Heavy metal forms the soundtrack, reinforcing the game’s forceful action identity.
Players can approach the campaign alone or cooperatively, and the listed multiplayer formats also include PvP and PvE.
