Pacific Drive casts the player as a lone driver crossing a surreal version of the Pacific Northwest, with a station wagon as their only companion. The Olympic Exclusion Zone is an abandoned research site filled with anomalies, remnants of the ARDA organization, and a long-buried mystery. Rather than treating the car as simple transport, the game makes keeping it running central to survival.
Excursions combine scavenging and investigation with the danger of a landscape that shifts between journeys. Players gather resources and data, manage fuel and damaged panels, and make repairs while navigating hazards such as strange weather and Zone Storms. Back at an abandoned garage, materials gathered on the road can be used to improve the car and its equipment, with parts and modifications offering ways to configure the wagon for the next trip.
The repeated loop of preparing at the garage, venturing into the Zone, and returning with resources gives Pacific Drive its distinctive rhythm: each run is a risky expedition, and the car’s condition shapes the challenge of pressing farther into the unknown.
