Overlord: Raising Hell casts you as a dark ruler in a warped fantasy world, where the central temptation is to use absolute power for increasingly despotic ends. Your minions are more than a sinister backdrop: you command their horde to smash, destroy, kill and steal while conquering lands populated by the Seven Heroes, demonic Halflings and rabid unicorns. That mix of cartoonish menace and hands-on minion control gives the game its distinctive take on fantasy action-adventure.
The single-player expansion sends the Overlord into supernatural abysses tied to five kingdoms. Portals open after a kingdom has been conquered and its ruler banished; inside, undead enemies threaten the Overlord’s rule, while captured peasants need to be returned home. The objective is to lead the minions through these underworlds, defeat the fallen rulers and claim each kingdom’s underworld throne. This structure frames the game around conquest and a continuing campaign of command, rather than an exclusively competitive multiplayer loop.
A separate Challenge Pack adds seven online multiplayer maps, including Capture the Maiden and Protect Your Power, which asks players to defend the Overlord’s tower against enemy waves.
