Obenseuer begins with an involuntary move into Stalburg’s notorious district, where a strict quarantine bars residents from leaving. The situation is bleak: the game frames survival around depression, addiction and the possibility of lethal disease. A clerical error gives the player ownership of an unfinished apartment building, turning a precarious refuge into the foundation for a larger undertaking.
That undertaking mixes property management with hands-on making. Players upgrade and maintain the tenement, rent apartments to its unusual inhabitants, and establish facilities for businesses. They can furnish their own rooms and place crafting and manufacturing equipment, with the basement offering space for a factory. Farming adds another practical thread: grow turnips or potatoes, then process crops into products for profit, while also securing something to eat.
The game’s wider design links these systems to local tasks and unsettling discoveries. Helping residents with quests can uncover hidden activity, while theft, sabotage and break-ins offer illicit routes that carry the risk of jail.
