NOBUNAGA'S AMBITION: Sphere of Influence is a historical strategy game set amid Japan’s Warring States era. Players take the role of a daimyō such as Nobunaga Oda or Shingen Takeda, seeking to unify the country through domestic affairs, diplomacy and battles with rival warlords. Its central appeal is the broad task of governing and campaigning together, rather than treating conflict as a series of isolated encounters.
Diplomacy and military command are closely connected. An Alliance command lets players join with other warlords, while the Corps under the command system gives them control over the distinctive warlords serving beneath them. Battles use simultaneous strategy executions, and changing fields and situations call for tactical planning and troop control. The game also includes scenarios based on historical events, including the Battle of Sekigahara, and Sengoku Chronicle, which adds more than 500 officers to its character listing.
That combination of domestic management, negotiation and battlefield decisions gives the game a measured, campaign-oriented format. The historical setting and command systems provide the context: the numbers relate to a game about steering a warlord’s rise toward unification.
