Nimbatus casts you as captain of a mobile drone factory, with the central task of designing spacecraft suited to a hostile, physics-based universe. Its construction workshop offers more than 75 physically simulated parts, inviting experimentation with how a drone is assembled and operates. Exploration has a tangible payoff: procedurally generated planets are destructible and contain resources, while their distinct properties, climate zones, and enemies shape what awaits on each world.
The game’s modes give that engineering premise different forms. In the survival campaign, players choose among six captains, travel through the universe, and expand an arsenal while facing overwhelming odds. Sandbox play removes resource pressure in favor of creative freedom, with adjustable parameters and the ability to set personal challenges. Competitive arenas, meanwhile, put player-built machines into contests such as Sumo, Racing, Brawl, and Catch, making drone design part of direct competition rather than only an exploration tool.
Automation adds another layer: sensors and logic parts can be combined to build drones that act on their own, and those inventions can be used in single-player or tested against other players. Weapon options range from campaign combinations to custom designs made in a weapon workshop, with research and mothership upgrades also described.
