News Tower is a single-player management and strategy game set in 1930s New York, where you build a newspaper business amid the pressures of the Great Depression and the approach of World War II. Its central rhythm is a weekly Sunday deadline: each edition asks you to balance editorial judgment against the practical work of keeping a newsroom running.
The tower is both workplace and logistical puzzle. You lay out newsroom floors with printing stations, compositing desks and other work areas, while walls, elevators and pneumatic tubes affect how efficiently staff operate. A team spanning more than 30 job roles has individual traits and needs, so hunger, focus and morale become part of managing production. Each week, you assign reporting leads, select a tone and tags, and decide how to cover subjects such as crime, politics and sports. The tension lies in choosing between credibility and attention-grabbing reach, with readers’ reactions and sales responding to the paper’s choices.
Beyond the newsroom, News Tower connects editorial decisions to a contest for influence across New York. Four factions, including the Mayor and Mafia, pursue their own agendas, while rival newspapers compete for scoops and audiences. Editions can be distributed across districts whose readers have distinct preferences, making local appeal another consideration.
