Neon Inferno casts players as an assassin working for the Family, a crime syndicate seeking control of a dystopian New York City. Its pixel-art streets frame a conflict that unfolds across two planes: the foreground and the background. That hybrid side-scroller and gallery-shooter setup gives the action a distinctive visual and tactical premise, rather than keeping every threat on a single horizontal path.
Combat combines run-and-gun shooting with attacks aimed at enemies in either plane. Players can use Bullet Time to deflect projectiles, commandeer vehicles during pursuits, and choose between Angelo Morano and Mariana Vitti. Weapon options and upgrades add further choices, while adjustable difficulty and Arcade Mode offer different ways to approach the challenge. Missions conclude with bosses described as having unique attacks and multiple phases.
The game supports solo play as well as shared-screen co-op, in which a friend can join the fight.
