Monsters are Coming! blends tower defense with survivor-style action in a journey across a monster-haunted landscape. You control a persistent hero who gathers resources while defending a city that must keep moving toward the Ark. The central tension is practical and constant: stray from the route to seek richer rewards, or head toward shelter before the city is overwhelmed.
Wood, stone and gold each support a different need: keeping the engines running and improving towers, repairing the city, and expanding its defenses. At shelters, you can buy districts and decide where to place them, while choosing a Town Hall and structures such as archery outposts or necromancer towers to shape a run’s defenses. Combat adds boss encounters, environmental obstacles and special weaponry, giving the hero reasons to adapt while the city presses onward.
The city, rather than the hero, is the run’s defining safeguard. If the hero falls, the run continues as long as the city survives, allowing a return to the fight; destruction of the city ends the attempt. Runs also feed into future efforts through collected compasses, while leveling and upgrades develop the player’s potential against increasingly powerful monsters. The result is a game built around juggling two linked fronts: the hero’s risky expeditions and the fortress’s ongoing survival.
