In Monster Train, hell has frozen over, and your task is to protect its last burning pyre from heaven’s forces. The defense unfolds across three vertical battlefields, giving the roguelike deck-building format a layered tactical focus. You choose a route through locations offering different benefits, then build toward the final boss with upgrades, recruits, passive bonuses, or card duplication.
Five clans bring distinct gameplay and card pools to each run: select a primary and supporting clan, then combine their options as you shape your deck. Cards can receive upgrades, while clan-specific champions can be improved along the way. With varied starter decks, random events, and difficulty levels, the game is designed around changing strategic choices rather than a single fixed setup.
Daily and custom challenges add competitive goals through leaderboards, while the core campaign remains centered on defending the pyre through a run. These distinct solo and competitive modes make the game’s player activity more meaningful to interpret than a single undifferentiated multiplayer label.
