Mokoko X: The First Date is presented as a free first chapter of Mokoko X, framing its arcade-style objective around claiming space rather than simply surviving in place. The aim is to conquer a larger portion of the screen, with your own territory serving as temporary shelter from enemies. That safe zone is conditional, however: a steadily shrinking shield makes both retreat and expansion part of the same urgent balancing act.
To claim new ground, you draw a line outward from your area. Doing so deactivates your shield and leaves you exposed, so each attempt to expand carries a clear risk. Waiting is not a neutral option either, because the shield keeps draining; if you fail to conquer frequently enough, it burns out and your existing territory no longer protects you. This push and pull between cautious positioning and dangerous expansion gives the game its distinctive tactical rhythm.
Three difficulty settings adjust enemy behavior, shield conditions, and the percentage of the screen required for victory. The single-player format makes this a self-directed challenge built around managing those changing pressures, rather than a multiplayer contest.
