Mixtape follows three friends on their last night together, as they head toward one final party. A curated playlist draws them into dreamlike reenactments of formative memories, framing the journey as a bittersweet look at adolescence, change, and moving on. Rather than presenting one continuous adventure, the game builds its story from narrative vignettes about moments that shaped the friends.
Those memories become varied, playful scenes: players skateboard, fly, hit baseballs, take photos at an abandoned theme park after hours, and put on a fireworks show from a car’s backseat. The mix of activities gives the coming-of-age story its distinctive shape, shifting between mischief, nostalgia, and milestones such as a first kiss or last dance. Music is central to that design, with tracks by artists including DEVO, Roxy Music, The Smashing Pumpkins, and the Cure.
Beethoven and Dinosaur draws on classic coming-of-age movies, pairing teenage aimlessness and music with the emotional weight of growing up. The result is a story-led game whose activities are presented as pieces of a personal mixtape.
