Mina the Hollower casts its hero as a renowned Hollower sent to rescue a cursed island. The adventure draws on Victorian Gothic horror, balancing a bone-chilling atmosphere with a heartwarming tale. Its world is described as vast and interconnected, with secrets scattered across exotic locales and a darkness for Mina to illuminate.
Movement and combat share the same toolkit: Mina can leap, dodge, and burrow through the ground to cross the world or contend with monsters. Her whip, Nightstar, is one option among weapons with different move sets, while unusual Sidearms and equipable Trinkets add further combat effects. Players can also level Mina to suit their playstyle, bringing a degree of customization to an action-adventure shaped by exploration and challenging battles.
The presentation pairs Game Boy Color-inspired 8-bit visuals with detailed animation and widescreen imagery, alongside a chiptune soundtrack by Jake Kaufman. Boss encounters, hidden discoveries, and the linked layout of its dark world round out the game’s exploration-focused design.
