Microtopia is a single-player strategy and simulation game about managing robot ants in a world of electronic waste. The colony’s goal is to reproduce: gather resources, create young queens, and send them out to establish colonies in distant lands. That reproductive cycle gives settlement growth a clear purpose, linking the work of building up a colony to its eventual spread beyond its starting point.
Players design trails and place buildings to give ants instructions, shaping how they move through the colony’s transport network. The ants collect materials, produce goods, and feed the queen. Sensors and logic gates can sort ants by different properties, while workers can be upgraded into castes such as flying ants, digger ants, and inventor ants. A tech tree unlocks new features, adding progression to the logistics of organizing the workforce and its tasks.
Exploration takes the colony into colorful biomes, where players can discover plant species and find uses for their resources, as well as expand to nearby islands. Its distinctive design ties those interconnected systems to the ants’ reproductive cycle.
