Metro Exodus follows Artyom as he leaves the tunnels beneath Moscow and leads a band of Spartan Rangers eastward in search of a new life. Set in 2036, its journey crosses post-apocalyptic Russia over the course of a year, carrying the group through changing seasons and toward the depths of nuclear winter. A heavily modified steam locomotive, the Aurora, serves as the party’s means of travel.
The game combines first-person shooting with stealth, exploration and survival horror. Its story connects familiar Metro gameplay to large, non-linear levels, where players scavenge and craft to customize handmade weapons before facing human and mutant enemies in tactical combat. Day-night cycles and dynamic weather shape the wilderness setting, while decisions have consequences for the companions: not everyone is guaranteed to survive, and those choices contribute to replayability.
Metro Exodus is listed as single-player, so its play format centers on an individual player’s progress through Artyom’s story rather than a shared multiplayer session.
