Metro 2033 Redux follows Artyom, raised in Moscow’s underground after an apocalypse made the surface poisonous. When a fateful event sets him on a mission to warn the surviving Metro communities of a looming threat, the journey leads through subway catacombs and into the wasteland above. The danger comes from more than mutants: the besieged station-cities also struggle against one another, giving the story’s survival stakes a human dimension.
This is a story-driven shooter built around exploration, survival horror, and tactical combat. Artyom relies on a gas mask and handmade weapons to face mutants, human enemies, and the environment. The Redux edition rebuilds the original in the Last Light engine and carries over improvements to AI, controls, animation, and weapon handling. Those details frame its combat as part of a tense journey through an atmosphere-focused world, rather than a stand-alone multiplayer contest.
Two play styles shape that journey in different ways: Survival leans toward slow-burn horror, while Spartan emphasizes the combat skills of a Ranger. Ranger Mode intensifies the resource pressure with limited supplies, deadlier combat, and no HUD or UI.
