METALLIC CHILD casts Rona, an android called the Metallic Child, as the lone force trying to stop a rebellion aboard the space laboratory Life Stream. With the ship’s robots plotting to crash it into Earth, the story frames the player as remotely guiding Rona from Earth while she explores the vessel and meets its inhabitants. That setup gives the action a narrative purpose: uncovering what happened during the uprising.
Combat blends rogue-lite randomness with close-quarters brawling. Randomized item distribution shapes each run, while Rona can strengthen herself by taking Cores from defeated enemies. The game also pushes beyond ordinary hack-and-slash: she can grab foes to use as shields, throw them into other opponents, or slam them into walls. Boss battles add another layer, since defeating these varied opponents lets Rona obtain their skills for use against stronger bosses.
The single-player format centers the experience on one guided character rather than cooperative play. Quests and conversations with NPCs provide a route through the ship’s mystery, alongside the combat and progression systems.
