Metal Slug Tactics recasts the series’ clash with General Morden as a tactical RPG campaign. The Peregrine Falcons must push through the Rebel Army to stop his revenge plot, while the game’s pixel art and familiar cast connect this strategic approach to Metal Slug’s arcade heritage. Its combat is built around squad decisions rather than simply reproducing the original action format.
Players choose characters, tailor weapon loadouts and mods, and use the SYNC mechanic to coordinate simultaneous attacks. Special attacks and called-in support, including artillery and airstrikes, add further options when a fight turns difficult. Experience gained after battles unlocks weapons or bonus perks, giving players ways to develop their team and adjust its firepower and tactical skills.
The campaign uses hand-crafted maps and multiple mission types, with a roguelite die-and-retry structure that encourages replaying missions and learning from defeats. That combination of turn-based planning, squad customization and repeated runs gives the game a distinct single-player format.
