In Merchants of Kaidan, Olivean de Calinn inherits a bitter mission after Van Talodd’s betrayal leaves their father dead and the family fortune confiscated. Starting with little, Olivean must build a trading enterprise and pursue revenge. The game combines a revenge-driven RPG story with the practical challenge of making a living as a merchant in the fictional world of Kaidan.
Trade means weighing more than a purchase price. Seasonal shifts and changing supply and demand affect markets, while goods such as furs can be profitable only if the journey is worth the risk. Players choose among road, sea and air routes, each with distinct advantages and hazards, and can hire specialist advisers to help manage risks and improve trading decisions. Rumours, random journey events, illegal wares and the possibility of robbery add complications to the pursuit of profit.
The story spans four quest lines, including the main effort to avenge Olivean’s father, and the game also offers a main quest and two quick scenarios. As the business grows, players can form a partnership and manage three traders at once.
