Menace from the Deep is a single-player adventure built around a secret society and the mystery of a strange monolith known as the Heart of the Sea. Its grim, tragic story also extends to the society’s members: each hides a secret, revealed by collecting memory fragments. That combination of an unfolding mystery and character discoveries gives the card battles a narrative setting rather than making them the whole premise.
Players can choose among three heroes, each with a distinct fighting style and battle-card deck. Cards can be collected and upgraded, while inventory draws on relics, equipment, and consumables. Many relics can be assembled into collections, adding another layer of planning to the equipment system. The game also uses travel cards to shape journeys between different locations, where events offer further encounters with its grim world.
Between journeys, players gather building materials and construct upgrades intended to make later expeditions easier. Allies can join battles, and help can also be summoned through rituals, items, or cards. Its mix of deckbuilding, travel, events, and persistent construction frames the experience as a sequence of increasingly prepared journeys.
