Its skirmish campaign combines new missions with reworked scenarios from the original Assault Squad.
Tactical control shifts between directing squads and taking hands-on command of an individual soldier or vehicle through Direct Control. That option gives critical moments a more immediate, third-person feel within the broader strategy of positioning and managing forces. The game also emphasizes a varied roster, with more than 250 vehicles and over 200 soldiers carrying distinct loadouts, while smarter AI and upgraded visuals support the battlefield presentation.
Play formats range from single-player skirmishes and cooperative play to competitive multiplayer. Skirmishes support eight-player co-op, while multiplayer maps offer modes from one-versus-one to eight-versus-eight, with Extreme Mode designed for especially large, chaotic engagements.
