MechWarrior 5: Clans places you in the role of a newly graduated Smoke Jaguar pilot during the Clan Invasion of the Inner Sphere. Its campaign follows Operation Revival across numerous planets and varied biomes, framing the conflict through the Clan Smoke Jaguar perspective. The story also features developed characters and moral dilemmas, giving the military campaign a personal dimension.
The central battlefield unit is a five-mech Star, and you lead it through missions while choosing how to adapt to each fight. Customizable BattleMechs, Clan weapons and equipment, and mission-specific upgrades make preparation part of the tactical experience. During combat, the Battle Grid, Command Wheel, and streamlined controls support directing your Star, while the revamped MechLab, Hardpoint, and OmniPod systems shape how you configure its machines. Pilot progression adds another layer of development as the campaign advances.
The game offers a fully standalone single-player campaign as well as co-op for up to four other players, who can join in protecting and leading the Star through missions. Dynamic destruction and detailed environments round out the combat-focused presentation.
