M.A.R.S. sets its action in a future conflict where a covert weapons project complicates an already sprawling war. The League of Nations’ insectoid robots, created to counter UNITA’s human experiments, develop their own agenda, leaving humanity caught between rival forces. That science-fiction premise frames a game built around a broad mix of competitive matches and cooperative missions.
For PvP, familiar formats such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Search & Destroy sit alongside Headhunter, where each successive kill enlarges the player’s head. The co-op side shifts to wave-based survival against aliens, dinosaurs, and robots, or mini-campaigns that let up to four players push through a UNITA compound. Missions and challenges provide currency and upgrade materials: weapons have levels and grades, with higher tiers adding statistical and ability bonuses. The game also includes escalating challenge options, from Nightmare Challenges to group-based Quantum Trials.
M.A.R.S. also ties its missions to a larger narrative, using voiced cutscenes and journeys through timelines populated by creatures from different eras. Its identity rests on that combination of conventional team modes, unusual match twists, weapon progression, and cooperative science-fiction excursions.
