Mars Horizon casts you as the leader of a space agency, guiding its programme from the dawn of the space age toward a crewed landing on Mars. The alternate-history premise makes the race about more than reaching a destination: choices can put different agencies first on the Moon, while the wider competition asks you to balance technological ambition against the risks of moving too quickly.
Its management layer connects agency-building with mission execution. You create a base with facilities such as launch pads and research labs, assemble custom vehicles from historically inspired parts, and hire and train crews. In turn-based missions, you act as mission control, weighing spacecraft resources against immediate problems. A malfunctioning antenna might compete for power with the need to preserve oxygen, giving the strategic decisions a concrete operational edge. Research, public support and diplomacy also shape the agency’s route through the space race.
Its documented design also includes a customizable Sandbox Mode, five agencies with distinct traits and equipment, and missions inspired by real space programmes. Together, these features frame it as a solo management campaign about building an agency and making consequential choices on the way to Mars.
