Mandate Order is an ancient China war simulation that joins city-building with political management and tactical combat. Its setting draws on the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, casting the player as a ruler whose stronghold must sustain itself while facing enemy invasion. Rather than separating economic growth from military readiness, the game frames both as parts of governing a state.
Construction is gridless: residences, farms, workshops, and barracks can be arranged into a production network, with gathering, processing, storage, and distribution linking raw materials to the needs of the city. Seasonal shifts affect farming and management, while weather and disasters add further pressures. Retainers drawn from schools of thought such as Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism can serve in administration, command, diplomacy, or policy. Their roles sit alongside decisions about alliances, ceasefires, trade, and national governance.
When planning gives way to battle, mouse-drawn commands deploy formations for maneuvers such as encirclement, breakthrough, and siege assault. Chariots, fortifications, siege weapons, and large real-time battlefields give the military side a distinct scale from the city’s daily logistics.
