Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 brings the card game’s spell-slinging battles to a digital journey across fantastic planes. Players can take on AI opponents, challenge friends, and work through encounters and puzzles before confronting Nicol Bolas, a dragon Planeswalker presented as the Multiverse’s ultimate villain. Its appeal rests on pairing familiar deck-based strategy with a sequence of varied challenges.
Ten distinct customizable decks provide the starting point for shaping a play style. Each has 30 additional cards to unlock through gameplay, and players can modify decks and choose which lands to tap when casting spells. Encounters add a puzzle-like twist: opponents use a stacked deck built around a particular Magic strategy, asking players to respond to a defined tactical challenge rather than simply face a conventional match.
The game supports single-player play as well as multiplayer, including Planechase battles for up to four participants, with players or AI, in local and online play. Planechase places combat in an ever-shifting environment, giving matches a different frame from the campaign’s encounters and puzzles.
