MADNESS: Project Nexus turns the violent, irreverent world of the Madness universe into a third-person Run ’n’ Gun and Beat ’Em Up. Its combat mixes shooting with close-quarters attacks such as stabbing, bashing and chopping, giving encounters an arcade-style, button-mashing feel. The premise stretches beyond a string of fights: the story campaign follows antiheroes infiltrating guarded sites and facing threats including cultists, armed bandits and oversized Mag Agents while they uncover the secrets of Project Nexus.
The game offers two sharply different combat structures. In the story campaign, players can go solo or team up locally, moving through a sequence of dangerous locations. Arena Combat is instead a solo mode built around repeated enemy waves: players develop a custom warrior through specialized skill tiers, then craft weapons and outfit them with technology. Its arenas range from game-show settings to haunted houses and high-speed trains, so character development and loadout-building sit alongside the immediate brawling.
A separate Playground mode lets players arrange fights between squads of enemies, choose their weapons, or enter the battle themselves. Its appeal lies in pairing chaotic arcade action with several distinct ways to set up a fight.
