Lost Light places players in an apocalyptic exclusion zone of ruined factories, harbors, and forests. Its survival loop revolves around scavenging and reaching an evacuation point: loot is only secured if you make it out alive. Players can choose a heavily armed approach or travel light, making the prospect of extraction central to each expedition.
Preparation carries into the battlefield. Players customize a loadout in their shelter and must account for hunger and pain while exploring, completing survivors’ commissions, and searching for supplies. Firearms allow extensive modification, with recommended loadouts available for quick equipment. The game offers both first- and third-person perspectives, while its tactical design allows players to seek an evacuation rather than treating violence as the only answer.
Lost Light also combines solo survival decisions with options for cooperation and trade. Players may partner with a spared enemy or commission another player to attempt a rescue after a knockout. Loot can be stashed at a base, where players can establish a shop and trade in a player-driven economy.
