Longvinter sends players to an island on an expedition to investigate its distinctive natural resources and uncover what other organizations have tried to conceal. Starting from a research camp, you gather materials, buy tools, and sell what you collect to fund better equipment. The premise blends exploration and survival-minded resource gathering with competition among fellow researchers.
The island’s hand-crafted open world supports several approaches: players can learn productive fishing and berry locations, build camps, and develop research bases along specialization paths. Conflict is part of that economy, not a separate premise: players may form alliances, defend or seize valuable areas, and contend with hostile mercenaries in bunkers, cave bases, and oil rigs. Building, crafting from a large selection of items, farming, cooking, and trading give players additional ways to shape their role and earn resources. Boats and mounts offer ways to travel between islands and regions.
Longvinter is designed as a multiplayer sandbox, with both player-versus-player and cooperative play represented in its listed modes.
