Live Hard, Die Hard casts the player as commander of an elite unit facing an alien invasion and a last assault on the enemy’s Terminal Core. Its premise is framed as a fight against humanity’s extinction, but the pressure is also organizational: the squad must be prepared across four weeks before the final operation. That setup gives the strategy a defined campaign arc rather than presenting combat as an isolated encounter.
Each week alternates between base management and an expedition. At base, the commander manages resources and develops the unit; in battle, soldiers act independently while the player directs retreats, reinforcements, abilities and artillery. The design pairs real-time tactical decisions with longer-term squad care: wounded troops need treatment, casualties strain those still fighting, and soldiers also accumulate mental stress that calls for recognition. Alien remains can be dissected for randomly generated Side Effects, creating a choice between recovery and acquiring powers that may reshape a fight.
Character development adds another layer through individual Branch-Skills, Body Mods and Genomes, alongside research, support devices and squad direction that unlock commander abilities.
