Legend of Dungeon casts its randomized dungeon as both a treasure hunt and a survival challenge. Players descend through darkened floors in search of weapons, items, and forgotten magic, facing mysterious creatures while navigating traps and uncovering secrets. Potions offer another resource to manage, and treasure only becomes a legend-making haul if the party makes it out alive.
Combat is a real-time beat’em-up, set against dynamically shaded pixel art and real-time shadows. The dungeon’s 26 floors are randomized, while roaming boss monsters can drop special items; chance encounters also bring NPCs to buy from or gamble with. Classes can be unlocked, pets can be tamed, and hats join the broad selection of weapons, items, and magic. Dynamic music is assembled from more than 300 tracks, giving the descent a changing soundtrack rather than a fixed score.
The game supports solo play as well as cooperative play for up to four people on the same PC with multiple controllers. Permadeath sharpens the risk: in a group of two or more, a fallen player becomes a ghost and can collect spirit orbs to resurrect.
