Last Train Home follows Czechoslovak soldiers attempting to return home through a Russia torn by conflict between the Red and White Armies. Their route crosses Siberia aboard an armored train, where cold, scarce supplies and strained morale complicate the journey. Inspired by historical events involving the Czechoslovak Legion after the Great War, the game puts the unit’s survival at the center of its strategy premise.
The train serves as a moving base: soldiers take non-combat duties, craft items, tend to the wounded and help restore morale. Players can upgrade the carriages and locomotive and oversee maintenance. On land, squads undertake real-time missions with varied objectives, relying on planning, combat skills and tactical choices. Soldier development includes unlocking skills, finding better equipment, assigning medals and advancing through the ranks.
This mix of onboard management and combat missions gives Last Train Home a distinct single-player format. Across the journey, managing supplies and crew alongside tactical engagements shapes the challenge of guiding the legion home.
