Land of the Vikings is a strategy game about guiding a Viking settlement from a small community toward a flourishing society. Its central challenge is balancing expansion with survival: villagers gather and produce resources, while food and firewood stores must carry the settlement through harsh winters. Seasonal hazards, storms and disasters add pressure to those plans, making preparation part of the settlement’s ongoing development.
The people themselves are more than interchangeable workers. Each villager has distinct characteristics, skills and abilities, so assigning tasks means matching individuals to the work they suit. As the community grows, players can welcome newcomers, see families form across generations, and develop the settlement through a Fame-funded Tree of Life. Construction also allows free placement rather than a grid, with building and decoration customization giving the settlement room for a personal layout.
Beyond managing daily needs, players can trade with visiting ships and send trade missions, or gather troops for raids and defend against rival villages. Battles use a command system, with heroes able to lead troops and provide bonuses.
