Kombine is a minimalist grid-based puzzle game centered on clearing every bordered block. Its matching rule also drives a chain of rising values: connect at least three blocks of the same kind and they form a new block of that color with a higher value. The sequence begins with three 1s making a 2, then continues upward, giving each match a role in both clearing the board and building stronger pieces.
The key constraint is that players can place only blocks valued at 1. That makes higher-value matches less straightforward than simply assembling identical pieces, and gives the puzzle its defining tension: plan how to create the blocks needed for later combinations while working toward an empty set of bordered blocks. Kombine offers normal and time trial modes across its level-based format. In time trial, the focus shifts to moving quickly through sets of 10 levels and aiming for a best time.
The appeal described here is the contrast between a spare grid, a clear removal objective and a matching system whose values keep climbing. Time trial adds a pace-focused alternative to the normal mode, while retaining the same concise puzzle premise.
