Knights and Merchants frames its medieval conflict through the fate of a kingdom broken into rival principalities. You play an ordinary captain in the Palace Guard, charged with defending the last royal province as rebel armies threaten the king and his capital. The setting draws on the Anglo-Saxon period around 1200, while keeping its geography fictional and its world free of fabled creatures.
Its central design combines settlement simulation with real-time strategy: establish a prosperous community and complete economy, then prepare troops to face the enemy. The military roster includes archers, scouts, knights, bowmen and barbarians, while roughly 25 building types give the settlement side a broad practical focus. The two campaigns, The Shattered Kingdom and The Peasants Rebellion, together offer 34 missions, moving between the fractured realm’s political crisis and the work of rebuilding life under the king.
Skirmish mode and ten multiplayer maps provide additional ways to play, and multiplayer supports up to six participants over LAN or the internet. Those options sit alongside the campaign’s settlement-and-army loop, giving the game distinct solo and shared-play contexts.
