Kingdom Rush Origins travels back to the start of the saga, before Vez’nan’s threat to the kingdom. Its defense takes place across mystical lands, including elven forests, faery realms and floating ruins, as an elven army faces gnoll tribes, giant spiders and the Twilight army. The prequel framing gives the fantasy campaign a distinct place in the series without changing its central focus on defending against enemy waves.
Tactical choices come from building an army around specialized towers and troops: Elf Archers, Mystic Mages, Stone Druids and Elven Infantry. Tower upgrades add more abilities, while heroes bring their own powers and spells; players can also call reinforcements or summon lightning. The design puts enemy knowledge alongside defense planning, with an in-game encyclopedia for studying both foes and towers. Boss battles add another kind of encounter to the campaign’s waves.
Classic, Iron and Heroic modes shape the way players tackle its challenges, and three difficulty settings accommodate different levels of experience. Its presentation retains the series’ signature look while setting this installment in an earlier chapter of its fantasy world.
