King Lucas frames its adventure around a royal rescue: after the queen leaves, the king’s daughters repeatedly go missing inside his castle, and he calls on knights to find them. Each search begins in a castle that is reconfigured, with the princess initially hidden in a small area. Reach her, and the playable area expands for the next, more demanding hunt. The escalating layout gives the quest a clear rhythm, from a focused search to navigating a vast, unlocked maze.
Movement is room by room, horizontally and vertically, through a network of interconnected spaces. The castle’s hand-designed rooms include hazards such as lava pits, water tunnels, ladders and traps, while giant spiders, armored rats and piranhas make equipment relevant. Earn money to purchase tools such as compasses and crystal balls, along with weapons and sturdier shields. The game describes itself as a 2.5D metroidvania with retro-inspired platform, action and adventure mechanics, and NPCs add conversations and unexpected roles to the arcade-style quest.
King Lucas supports both solo play and collective multiplayer searches. In the competitive search mode, players race to find the same princess, with only the first finder winning.
