Killing Floor casts players as military personnel sent into the devastated cities and countryside of England after cloning experiments go disastrously wrong. The objective is stark: survive the specimen attacks long enough to cleanse each area. Its survival-horror premise is paired with open, non-linear play areas, where the team chooses when and where to fight, or when to run.
The central format is cooperative combat against successive waves of monsters, with room for as many as six players. Teams can equip medical tools, welders and body armor, while welding doors can redirect the horde through alternate corridors. Players also choose Perks to balance the group, and the Persistent Perks system turns in-game achievements into lasting improvements to character skills and abilities. Slow-motion ZEDtime highlights violent creature deaths, adding a distinctive presentation beat to the firefights.
Killing Floor also supports solo offline play, so its play format ranges from a coordinated team effort to a lone survival run. With multiple monster types and a broad arsenal ranging from knives and fire-axes to shotguns, rifles and a flamethrower, encounters bring together team choices, improvised routes and relentless specimen attacks.
