Just Shapes & Beats turns a bullet-hell challenge into a musical co-op game: players avoid incoming shapes while moving to the beat. Its premise is simple, but the combination makes rhythm part of the action rather than just a soundtrack. The game can be played alone or with others, so its basic dodge-and-survive challenge accommodates different ways to play.
The design includes Story Mode, Challenge Runs and a Playlist for practicing tracks. Story Mode introduces the ropes, with an optional Casual mode; Challenge Runs assemble randomly picked tracks and judge players on their skills. The Playlist lets players work on tracks they find difficult. Across 48 hand-crafted stages, licensed music from chiptune and EDM artists gives the hazards a musical frame, tying movement and survival to the game’s central rhythm-focused idea.
Play is available solo or in co-op for up to four players, either locally or online, with drop-in, drop-out sessions. Party Mode offers another setting, playing the game as part of a social gathering, with the option for people to play party stages while the music continues.
